Prof. Jonathan Robert Sanders Arch
Professor Jonathan Robert Sanders Arch is Scientific Advisor for Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited. He is also Deputy Director of Metabolic Research, Clore Laboratory at the University of Buckingham. Prof. Arch joined the Clore Laboratory in, where he pursues his specific interest in the influence of in utero-programming of susceptibility to diabetes and obesity.
Prior to this, Prof. Arch was Director - Obesity and Diabetes Research at SmithKline Beecham, which later became GlaxoSmithKline. In 1974, he worked with Beecham Pharmaceuticals where he played a major role in the discovery of b3-adrenoceptor agonists and their receptors. From 1987 to 1994 his work was mainly in the area of asthma drug discovery.
Prof. Arch has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and also serves as Consultant for obesity and diabetes research for a number of pharmaceutical companies and other institutes.
He holds a first class degree in Biochemistry and a D.Phil. from Oxford University.
Dr. F. G. Kathawala
Dr. F.G. Kathawala is Scientific Advisor for Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. He has been an advisor and consultant for various pharmaceutical companies in India since 1998.
His last post was consultant to Novartis, which he held till 1998. Dr. Kathawala started his career at Sandoz, USA in the Drug Discovery Research Group in 1969. There he made several contributions in the areas of Inflammation, CNS, Diabetes and Atherosclerosis. Under his direction, several New Chemical Entities were taken to Phase I, II and III clinical studies. He also played a key role in the success of Lescol at Novartis. He formally retired from Sandoz in 1994.
Dr. F.G. Kathawala holds a M.Sc. degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Bombay and a PhD from Germany. While pursuing his doctorate, he got outstanding multidisciplinary exposure as a Research Associate under Prof. F. Cramer at The Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Goettingen, Germany. He spent three years in the USA with the Nobel Laureate Prof. R. B. Woodward at Harvard University and thereafter with Prof. H. Muxfeldt at the University of Madison, Wisconsin, as a Post-doctoral fellow.
Prof. Clive P. Page
Prof. Clive Page is Scientific Advisor for Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Presently, he holds the post of Director, Sackler Institute of Pulmonary Pharmacology, King's College London.
Prof. Page's career started with Sandoz Ltd [Basel, Switzerland] in 1984. He left Sandoz in 1986 to join King's College, London as lecturer in the Pharmacology department. He is Professor - Pharmacology, King's College, London since 1994.
Prof. Page's research activities to date have attracted about three million pounds since his appointment to King's College London in 1986. His research has resulted in more than 150 papers published by peer reviewed journals. He has contributed to over 30 books, ranging from Proceedings of International Meetings to chapters in Textbooks of Pharmacology and Respiratory Medicine. Prof. Page is frequently invited to lecture around the world on his research to both academic and industrial audiences. He has also been speaker at many International Meetings.
Prof. Page has trained 17 PhD students to date, all within four years of registration and all of whom are still active scientists. He is also a Member of the Use of Experimental Animals Committee of the Royal Society, a Member of the Council of the Respiratory Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and consultant to a number of pharmaceutical companies.
A PhD in Pharmacology [PAF as an inflammatory mediator] from the University of London [1984], Prof. Page graduated in the first class with a BSc in Pharmacology in 1st Class [University of London, 1977].
Prof. Anthony Dayan
Prof. Anthony Dayan is Scientific Advisor for Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited. He is presently Emeritus Professor of Toxicology at the University of London.
Prior to this, he was appointed as the first Professor of Toxicology and Director of the Department of Toxicology at St. Bartholomew's Hospital [University of London] and Honorary Consultant Physician from where he retired in 1998. Prof. Dayan started his career with National Hospitals in London in 1968. After working with the Wellcome Foundation from 1973 to 1984, he joined the Department of Toxicology at St. Bartholomew's Hospital [University of London] as the first Professor of Toxicology and Director and Honorary Consultant Physician. He retired from that post in 1998.
Since 1984, Prof. Dayan has been appointed to official UK and other government advisory committees concerned with chemicals and medicines, and has also been a Temporary Adviser to the WHO and the IPCS. Additionally, he has been a consultant to UK, North American Japanese and European companies on diverse toxicological aspects of conventional pharmaceuticals and recombinant DNA products, and medical devices, as well as pesticides, industrial and consumer chemicals.
In addition to being member of many scientific societies like the Royal Society of Medicine [Past President of Comparative Medicine Section; Council member 1999-2003], Prof. Dayan has also been a member and Chairman of Research Ethics Committees in various hospitals and other research establishments since 1984.
An MBBS with Honours from the University of London, Prof. Dayan got his MD from the same university in 1968. He has a number of academic degrees to his credit, the latest being a Ll. B. from Open University in 2004.
