Glenmark made its presence felt in Africa in 1991.
Over the years, it has emerged as a pharma major in the continent
with operations spreading out across 35 markets. The region has
2 subsidiaries in Nigeria and South Africa, a representative office
in Kenya
and a scientific office in Egypt.
Glenmark operates in the African and Middle East region in therapies
like Dermatology, Gynecology, Anti infectives, Gastrointestinal
and Diabetes. By consistently introducing a wide range of products
in different therapeutic specialties Glenmark has succeeded in expanding
its product basket and also its reach across different countries.
Its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities have been certified
for Good Manufacturing Practices [GMP] confirming to international
standards by competent regulatory authorities in Ghana, Nigeria,
Zimbabwe, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Ethiopia, Madagascar,
Oman and Yemen.
In December 2005, Glenmark acquired Bouwer Bartlett Pty. Ltd., a
South African sales and marketing company, through its wholly owned
Swiss subsidiary, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals SA.
Bouwer Bartlett was founded in 2001 following a management buyout
from Bioglan UK. Currently its pharmaceutical business unit produces,
markets, sells and distributes a range of ethical dermatological
products including brands like Synalar and Naseptin. Bouwer Bartlett
also exclusively markets, sells and distributes products for Laboratories
Boiron [France], one of Europe's top homeopathic companies via its
consumer division. This division also markets, sells and distributes
a variety of other natural products including herbal and vitamin
preparations, most of them manufactured locally.
Bouwer Bartlett operates in the prescription market, pharmacy/health
shops, and hospital and state sectors in South Africa. In addition,
it distributes products to other Southern African countries, namely
Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
