Mr. Gracias Saldanha is the Founder of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited. With over 40 years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector, presently, he is the company’s Chairman and
Non-Executive Director.
Mr. Saldanha founded Glenmark in 1977 and was at its helm till 2001. Prior to setting up Glenmark, he worked with a number of multinational pharma companies from 1964 to 1977. His last assignment was with Aristo Pharma as Marketing Manager.
Mr. Saldanha holds a Masters degree in Science from the Bombay University and a Diploma in Management Studies from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
Mrs. B. E. Saldanha
Director - Exports
Mrs. B. E. Saldanha is an executive member of the Board of Directors and a member of the promoter group of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited. As Director – Exports, she has been heading Glenmark’s international operations since 1982 and has over 23 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
She holds a B. Sc. and B. Ed. from the Bombay University.
Mr. Glenn Saldanha
Managing Director & CEO
Glenn Saldanha is the Managing Director & CEO of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited – a global, fully integrated, research-based pharmaceutical company headquartered in Mumbai, India. He holds a Bachelor’s [graduate] degree in Pharmacology and an M.B.A. [post graduation degree] from Leonard Stern School of Business, NYU. Glenn joined Glenmark Pharmaceuticals in 1998 as Director and took over as Managing Director & CEO in 2001.
Glenn joined Eli Lily’s global marketing team soon after graduating from NYU. His last assignment was with Price Waterhouse Coopers USA. As consultant at PWC, he had opportunity to work with top pharmaceutical companies, like Rhone Poulenc Rhorer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Astra Merck and Smith Kline Beecham.
Glenn has been instrumental in growing Glenmark from being an India formulations business in 1999 to a global firm with interests spanning discovery research, India and international formulations, and API today. The company has grown at a compounded annual rate in excess of 27% over the past 5 years and is now among the few Indian firms with a successful drug discovery program.
Mrs. Cheryl Pinto
Director – Corporate Affairs
Cheryl Pinto is Director – Corporate Affairs with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited from October 1999. She is an executive member of the Board of Directors and belongs to the promoter group of the company.
Having over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical field, she presently heads the company’s Human Resource and Administration departments. An entrepreneur at heart, Cheryl was Managing Director of a pharmaceutical company that she had started from Jan 1989 to September 1999.
Cheryl is a graduate in Pharmacy from the University Department of Chemical Technology in Mumbai. She has also completed The General Management Programme from Harvard Business School in Boston.
Mr. Abhinna Sundar Mohanty
Director – Domestic Formulations
Mr. Mohanty is Director – Domestic Formulations and in his present capacity, he is responsible for the strategic growth of the company’s all-India formulations market. He was inducted into the company’s Board of Directors in 2002.
Mr. Mohanty joined Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in January 1984 as a Regional Manager. During his twenty-one-year tenure with Glenmark, he has played a critical role in making Glenmark a major player in the Indian pharma industry. His last assignment was as Medical Representative with Alembic from January 1977 – December 1983.
Mr. Mohanty holds a M. Sc. Degree in Mathematics from the Utkal University, Orissa. He has over twenty six years experience in pharmaceutical sales and marketing as well as healthcare sectors.
Mr. R.V. Desai
Director – Finance, IT & Legal
Mr. R. V. Desai is Glenmark’s Director for Finance, IT & Legal. He started his career with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited in 1982 and was appointed Director in 1999.
Mr. Desai is a graduate in Science from the University of Mumbai and a Chartered Accountant.
Mr. Julio F. Ribeiro
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Julio Ribeiro is a retired government official and has served the country under various assignments.
Some of the noteworthy positions held by him have been as the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai; Special Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs; Director General of Police, Punjab; Adviser to the Governor of Punjab and Ambassador of India to Romania. At present, he is a Director in IIT Corporate Services Ltd.
Dr. Prasanna R. Gore
Non-Executive Director
Dr. Prasanna R. Gore has over 11 years experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors ranging from pharmaceutical sales, academic faculty and strategic consulting.
Dr. Gore was elected Vice-Chairman of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists - Economic, Management, and Marketing section for the year 2000. He is a Ph.D. and M.S. in Pharmaceutical Marketing from University of West Virginia, Morgantown, WV and a B.Sc. from University of Bombay, India.
Mr. Natvarlal B. Desai
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Natvarlal B. Desai is a retired General Manager of Bank of Baroda. He has over 45 years experience in the Banking Sector, both in India as well as overseas. He was Chairman of Bank of Baroda Uganda Ltd. He is also the Founder of Equitorial Bank PLC, UK and was Managing Director with the bank till his retirement in 1992.
Mr. M. Gopal Krishnan

Mr. M. Gopal Krishnan is Founder Director of Equitorial Bank PLC, UK, where he continued to work till his retirement. He has also worked with Bank of India for over 25 years, most of which were spent overseas in Kenya and UK.
Mr. Sridhar Gorthi
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Sridhar Gorthi is Non-Executive Director on Glenmark’s Board of Directors and also partner in Trilegal. Prior to which he also worked with Arthur Andersen and Lex Inde, Mumbai. He has been involved in legal advisory services to various multinational and domestic corporations on restructuring, debt finance, joint ventures, acquisitions and mergers.
Mr. Gorthi is a BA. LLB [Hon] from the National Law School of India University.
Mr. Steven Bates
Non-Executive Director
Mr. Steven Bates is presently Director, Zephyr Management UK Ltd, an FSA regulated investment business investing in emerging markets. He is also an Investment Advisor to Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan Pension Fund, Member of the Governing Board of Kosovo Pensions Savings Trust [UN appointment] and Consultant on pension reform to Russian Foundation for Social Reform [World Bank].
A CFA from UK, Mr. Bates has over 20 years experience in the financial industry. He has worked with top firms, like James Capel and JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management, as head of Global emergence market.
